The Barcelona Stool by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for Knoll is a worthy companion to the iconic Barcelona Chair, embodying the architect’s enduring “less is more” philosophy. Designed in 1929 for the German Pavilion at the Barcelona International Exposition, it pairs a refined, criss-cross steel frame with an opulent leather seat — a study in the contrast between reduced structure and luxurious upholstery.
Each stool is produced to Mies’s exacting standards, with exclusive rights granted to Knoll in 1953. The frame is polished chrome, hand-ground and hand-buffed to a mirror finish; the cushion is assembled from individual panels cut from a single cowhide, hand-welted and hand-tufted with leather buttons. The KnollStudio logo and the designer’s signature are stamped into the base of each piece.
Available in Knoll’s range of Spinneybeck leathers and GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified, the Barcelona Stool brings quiet authority to reception areas, executive offices and refined lounge settings.
