Description

The MR Stool by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for Knoll belongs to the MR Collection, among the earliest steel furniture designs by the architect. Conceived in 1927, its pure, simple form displays an acute awareness of proportion, craftsmanship and materiality — the material itself inspired by fellow Bauhaus master Marcel Breuer, the curves echoing nineteenth-century iron rocking chairs.

The stool can be used as a seat or an ottoman. Its seamless tubular steel frame is finished in polished chrome, and the leather cushion is crafted in a series of quilted sections, attached with leather straps dyed to match the cushion. As an original Mies design, the frame is stamped with the Knoll logo and the designer’s signature; Mies granted Knoll exclusive production rights to the MR Series in 1948.

The MR Stool suits executive offices, reception areas and refined lounge settings, working beautifully alongside other pieces from the MR Collection.
