The Four Seasons Barstool by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for Knoll was conceived in 1958 for the bar of the Four Seasons Restaurant in New York’s Seagram Building — the tower Mies designed, with interiors by Philip Johnson. Believed to be a collaborative effort between the two architects, the stool reflects Mies’s signature spareness: a lean profile, clean lines and meticulous craftsmanship that complement the Flat Bar Brno Chair specified throughout the restaurant.
Never mass-produced in its day, the design was developed for production by Carl Magnusson and introduced by Knoll in 2006. The frame is bent steel with chrome plating (an antiqued satin bronze is also offered); the seat is upholstered over a foam cushion reinforced with a plywood form, with a signature stitching detail at the rear corner. The KnollStudio logo and Mies’s signature are stamped into each piece.
Available in Knoll Textiles and Spinneybeck leathers and GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified, the Four Seasons Barstool brings restrained, architectural elegance to premium bars and hospitality interiors.
